Louis R. Seaton, Jr., 72, longtime resident of Shawneetown, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born in Old Shawneetown on Aug. 20, 1935 to the late Louis and Madeline Seaton Sr. Louis was married to Ethel (Homan) on May 17, 1975; she survives.
Louis was a Army veteran, serving his country as an a Army Medic. He had retired from the Peabody Coal Co. and had been very active in his community. He served as deputy sheriff, Kentucky Colonel, head of security for Glenn Poshard, member of the UMWA, loved to camp and most of all loved politics, being an avid Democrat.
Louis was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by the community. He is survived by his wife Ethel; daughter, Susan Grace of Eldorado; stepdaughter, Debbie Oxford of Du Quoin; stepson, Steve Throgmorton of Sturgis, Ky.; stepson, Dan Throgmorton of Carbondale; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two aunts; and one uncle.
Visitation for Louis will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the funeral home. The Rev. Louis Devous will officiate and interment will be in the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Military rites will be performed at the grave site.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
