HORTON, Thomas, born 28 Dec 1816 in Dublin, County Dublin, Leinster Province, Ireland; immigrated to the United States with his family in 1817; settled with his family in Seneca, Monroe, Ohio; married Marinda Todd in 1843, probably in Monroe County; settled in Seneca Township before moving to Marion, Noble, Ohio in the 1850s; worked as a farmer; participated in a stump speech tour of Noble County in the campaign of 1877; member of the Free Methodist Church; an abolitionist and a conductor for the Underground Railroad; said to have an extraordinary mental ability, sterling qualities of manhood, and a strong power of advocating that which he believed to be right and just; said to be quick-witted, able in debate, strong in his convictions, thoroughly posted in history, a good conversationalist, a staunch friend, honest, and patriotic; died of bronchitis 12 May 1898 in Marion Township; interment in Eastern Cemetery in Summerfield.
