G. W. Vest was a Methodist Circuit Rider in Texas before moving to live with his son in Capitan. His wife, Parthena Glascock Vest, preceded him in death. They were married in 1838 in Alabama. They had 9 children.
The new headstone was bought and placed by descendants including: Ray Summers, Cynthia & J D Simmons, Jack Hanna's children (Peggy, Homer & Ellen, Louise & J W, Charlie & Dolores, Doug & Lola) Juandell Weddle and son John, Frederica Wyatt, Al & Ann Summers. This was done on July 1, 2007.
