Born in Hanover,Germany he served in the German Army during World War I. He was personal aide to Kaiser Wilhelm. Wounded in France during the close of the war,he was captured by American troops. In 1923 he,his wife and two children traveled to America were he struggled in sweat shops of that era to make ends meet for his family.
He once received a notice from Germany to return and serve his home country. His response to the Nazis was, "Kiss My Ass".
