WILLIAM JOSEPH AARON, SR.


William Joseph (Bill) Aaron, Sr, of Leavenworth, a retired U. S. Federal Penitentiary (USP) employee, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019, in St. Joseph, Mo.

Bill was born August 6, 1930, to Mark A. Aaron Sr. and Ethel Aaron Dawes of Kickapoo. He attended Kickapoo School, Immaculata High School class of 1947, and Kansas State University.

He married Regina Fink Aaron in 1951 before being drafted and serving in the Fifth Corps Army in Germany. He returned to Leavenworth, where he worked in Maintenance at Fort Leavenworth for many years before transferring to the USP. Bill retired from the USP in 1987.

Bill was active playing Schafkopf on Wednesdays at the Leavenworth Community Center. He was previously active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 55, serving as a Past President, a member of the traveling Ritual Team, and a bartender for many years. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, NARFE, St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth, and Sacred Heart Church of Kickapoo. He coached little league basketball at St. Joseph's School in the 1960s and 1970s.

Bill is survived by his sons, Bill (Connie) Aaron Jr., Larry (Denise) Aaron, Tom (Shirley) Aaron, and a daughter, Mary Aaron Anderson. He has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina, his son, Richard, his son-in-law, Dan Anderson, his grandson, Broc Burns and his sisters, Betty Aaron Phillips and Dolores Aaron Vossmer, his brother Mark Aaron Jr. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M., with the Rosary prayed at 5 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Davis Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
