Three Living of Dawson Family of Nine


HOLDEN, Dec 19 - Mrs. Abbie (Murphy) Hoey, wife of John J. Hoey of Holden, and mother of the five children who met their death as a result of a fire in their home at Dawson early yesterday morning, died at 5:30 this morning as a result of burns she received herself. This makes a death toll now of six. Four of the children were burned to death and an infant daughter, Mary, whom Mrs. Hoey had in her arms when rescued by her husband from a second story window, died last evening from the burns she received.

Surviving now are Mr. Hoey and his two sons, John and Herbert.


Funeral services for Mrs. Hoey and her five children will be held Monday in the home of her sister, Mrs. Edward R. Logan at 40 Marble St., Worcester. A high mass of requiem will be celebrated in St. Peter's Church at 10 o'clock. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be strictly private.

Besides her husband and two sons, Mrs. Hoey is survived by her father, John J. Murphy; three sisters, Annie, wife of John J. Fitzgerald, Margaret J., wife of Edward S. Logan, and Miss Catherine A. Murphy, also by two brothers, John J. and James F. all of Worcester.
