Verl Keith Ahlstrom

June 21, 1948 - November 12, 2023

Our Cowboy, the charismatic and ambitious Verl Keith Ahlstrom, has left us to join the grand rodeo in the sky. Born in Payson, Utah on June 21, 1948, Verl spent his years infusing all around him with laughter, love, and an enduring passion for life. His life was one rodeo ride, full of highs, lows, and the occasional buck. Verl was a superintendent in the Department of Transportation. He was probably the only one on the planet who could make highway maintenance sound like an exciting adventure, that's just how funny and engaging he was. When he wasn't on the job, he was racing horses, hunting with his friends, or being the life of the party. As Winston Churchill once said, "No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle." Verl lived this sentiment fully, with a gleam in his eye and a horse beneath him.

Verl was a loving husband to Sherrie, an adoring father to Griffin, Mindy, and Nathan, and a patient mentor to young, aspiring cowboys and cowgirls. He leaves behind a herd of loving family members, including his brother Floyd, sister Wendy, brother-in-law Gary, grandchildren Dylin, Kaycie, and Wyatt, and his daughter-in-law Amy. Preceding him in the great beyond are his parents, Keith and Elaine, and his beloved daughter, Mindy.

We're gathering to tip our hats to Verl on Saturday, 25 Nov 2023. We'll kick things off with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 am at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah, followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00 am. For those who can't make the journey, pull up a virtual seat at the campfire via the livestream. Interment will be at the St. John Cemetery following the service.

In the words of Will Rogers, "We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." So, let's gather, share stories, and celebrate the life of our cowboy, our hero, Verl. We encourage everyone to leave your memories of Verl and upload photos to his memorial page. It's not a goodbye, it's just a "see ya later, partner."
