John H. Felker, Jr. was born in Barton, Vermont and was the 3rd of eight children born to John and Lucina (Welch) Felker; both of Canada.
By 1890, Felker had moved west and was living in the community of Cloverdale, in Sonoma County, California. He was employed by the Santa Rosa Railroad.
On March 23, 1891, John H. Felker, Jr. and Eva Ann Sholes of Cloverdale were united in marriage in San Francisco. They made their home in Cloverdale.
Just shy of three years after their marriage, Eva Felker, died of Tuberculosis. She was laid to rest in the Cloverdale Cemetery. John Felker later transferred to a railroad depot in Marin County.
Sometime after 1897, Felker moved to Oregon and began working for a gold mining operation. In the 1900 census, he was employed in Slate Creek, Oregon. By 1916, he was working in Merlin, Oregon, approximately 9 miles N. of Grants Pass.
In the Oregon Daily Journal newspaper issued on Saturday, November 22, 1919, it was reported that John Felker had been found dead in a local hotel in Grants Pass. In his possessions was a letter from one of his sisters written some 22 years ago, as well as a photograph of three children.
Attempts to contact family members in Vermont and elsewhere were unsuccessful.
