In Muskogee, OK a handsome ten pound, four ounce blessing was born on October 22nd, 1970 to Marquis and Verta Lee McDaniel Grant. They named him Paul Derrick Grant. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in 1978 under the pastorage of Rev. Tommie McFrazier. Paul being the youngest of nine children was a joy to be around. He had a great sense of humor and a love of life that reflected in the lyrics of his music. His favorite snacks were "Cheddar Peppers and PB and J Sandwiches". He was educated in the Muskogee Public School System. He moved north east to become a student at Tahlequah High School, where he was a member of the Tigers Wrestling Team. Paul loved all sports and was active in most of them. In the spring of 1989, after graduating from high school at Tulsa Union, he enrolled at N.E.O. attending classes for one year. In the early 90's Paul formed a group called "Partners in Rhyme", writing songs for commercial and business purposes. Paul was employed by Chrysler Corporation of Tulsa as an attendant until his health began to fail. Paul went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 7th, 2008 at the age of thirty-seven after a lengthly illness.He was preceded in death by his father, Marquis Grant, II and grandmother Mary McDaniel. Those he leaves in God's care are a loving mother, Verta Lee Grant, of the home. His sisters, LaVersia Murray, Muskogee, OK, Idella Teague, Tulsa, OK, and Freida Derrick (Maurice), Marietta, Georgia. His brothers, Alonzo Grant, of the home. Alphonso Grant (Denise), Tulsa, OK, Marquis Grant, III (Bettye), Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Duane E. Grant, Prague, OK and Terrell P. Grant, Boley, OK. Several nephews nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. Special friend, Valerie Jennings and sons, Isaac and Isaiah. Bonita Reason and daughters, Alyssa and Jasmine and son, J.R., Tulsa, OK and Keely Goff, Tahlequah, OK.Funeral services for Paul will be held on Saturday, April 12th, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Smith, Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
