Lance Cpl. Casey Casanova of McComb, Mississippi attended North Pike during her elementary and middle school years. She graduated from a Seventh-day Adventist School in Lumberton, then returned to Pike County, where she enrolled in Southwest Mississippi Community College on a full scholarship. It was there that she enjoyed putting her love of music to work as a steel drummer and singer in the stage band. Those who knew her were amazed by her musical talents and her kindness toward others. In high school, she spent summers as a junior youth camp counselor. She also worked as a volunteer with various social organizations. But it was her smile and singing voice that will be unforgettable. After high school, she went to Southwest Mississippi Community College on a music scholarship. But after college, she was at a crossroads, and the pull of the military, and its promise of adventure, was strong. She joined the Marine Corps knowing fully that she could possibly be sent overseas, and completed her basic training at Parris Island, S.C. She worked in radio communications with the Marines. Casey had plans to one day raise a family and become a nurse after the military and was engaged to a fellow Marine she met while in California. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in McComb and was a leader in the New Heights Baptist Church youth group. Casey was a loving and outgoing person. She loved to spend time helping people. She spent a lot of her time volunteering to feed the hungry. She was a selfless and giving person and was a person whom everyone loved and loved to be around. Casey was preceded in death by an uncle, Kirk Bing. She was in a transport with three other Marines when a roadside bomb exploded. She was 22.
