ST. GEORGE, UT-Our loving mother and grandmother, Areta Maren Hansen Andersen, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Red Cliffs Regional Rehabilitation Center in St. George, Utah.

She was born January 21, 1918 to Henry and Elsie Pierson Hansen, Jr., in Magna, Utah. Areta married her life-long sweetheart, Floyd Oluf Andersen in November, 1935, and they later sealed their perfect union for all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Areta and Floyd provided exceptional parenting for their two children, Dennis Floyd, and Joyce ReNae, and the almost 70 foster children who were blessed to live as part of their family between 1940-1972. Areta's love for children transcended every aspect of her life, and she touched everyone she knew through her quiet, loving care. She was a skilled seamstress who was also expert at crocheting baby blankets, pot holders, and other collectible items. In addition to her talents as a homemaker, she enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, travel, and attending musical events where Floyd played in the orchestra or band. She served in the PTA, and enjoyed LDS church callings within the Primary, scouting program, and Relief Society.

Areta had a wonderful, long life, and she will be dearly missed by those surviving her: Joyce (Dick) Gaufin (daughter); Karren Andersen (daughter-in-law); grandchildren, (Kevin, Deborah, Mark, Jennifer, Emily, and Kim); nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; Nina Andersen (special sister-in-law); many nieces and nephews; and dozens of foster sons and daughters, and their families. Family members preceding her include her parents, her loving husband, her three wonderful sisters (Bessie Hansen, Helen May Sorensen, and Henrietta Hansen), and her precious son, Dennis Floyd.

A Visitation will be held Wed., May 7, from 6- 8 p.m. at the Valley View Funeral Home (4335 W. 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah). Funeral Services will be held Thurs., May 8, at 2 p.m., with a Visitation starting at 1:15 p.m.
Burial will be in the Valley View Memorial Park.
