He was born in Little Mountain, and was a son of the late Callie Bembridge and Ara Cannon Metts.
He was retired from Greenwood Mills, was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, was a veteran of World War II, served in the European Theater and was awarded a Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Marcie O'Shields Metts, of the home; three daughters and their husbands, Sylvia M. Williams, Kathy and Jimmy Beach, and Carolyn and Scott Wessel, all of Joanna; grandchildren, Meredith Casteel of Durham, N.C., Michele Knighton, Laney Miller, Annie Lambert, Jonathan Wessel, Randy Wessel, and Tiffany Wessel, all of Joanna; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Knighton, Heather Knighton, Cassidy Miller, and Joshua Miller, all of Joanna; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Turner, of Newberry; two brothers, Charles Metts of Chapin, and Tommie Lee Metts of Little Mountain.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Haskell, Voight and Claude Metts; and a son-in-law, Seth Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Gray Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
