Musician & Songwriter. Initially, he was the frontman for the 1970s rock band, The Raspberries. They were known for the 1972 gold single "Go All The Way." He went on to become a successful solo artist with the hits "All By Myself" (1976, which reached number 2 on the American Pop Charts and achieved gold record status), "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" (1976) and "Hungry Eyes" (1987, featured in the motion picture "Dirty Dancing," achieving a number 3 placing on the Pop Charts). Born Eric Howard Carmen, into a Jewish family, his interest in music was shaped by the likes of Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Henry Mancini. He was enrolled at the Cleveland Institute of Music during his early youth. By his teenage years, he was influenced by The Beatles and after several experiences in different bands, he co-formed The Raspberries who would sign on with Capitol Records. Carmen wrote the music for the hit single "Almost Paradise....Love Theme From Footloose" which reached number 7 on the Pop Charts in 1984. Additionally, the single "Make Me Lose Control" earned a number 3 placing on the Pop Charts in 1988. In 2000, he became part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band lineup and in 2005, he reformed The Raspberries who performed in a limited engagement.
