Mary "MV" was born in Ryan, Oklahoma. Her parents were Alonzo (Lon) and Emma (Bussey) Nix. Mary was named after her grandmother Mary Alexander Scott Nix.

She was the oldest of eight children.
Her brothers and sisters were Dorothy, Douglas, Reece, Cammie, Clifford, Henry and Pat.

Mary studied home economics in Boston, Mass. She was also a member of the National Youth Administration.

A devout christian, she was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, Sr member of the Girls Auxiliary. She also taught Sunday school for many years,worked with vacation bible school and was a member of Dorcas.

Anyone who came to visit her home rarely left without having something to eat. She was always first to cook for families who lost loved ones.


Mary and husband Bill had five children Robert(stillborn), Martha, Gary, Michael and Jimmy. Mary was a highly respected woman, a matriarch of the family.
