On September 17th, 1967 Corpsman Twehous and PFC John Peel (an FO with Echo 2/11) ran forward to pull a wounded Marine from a stream during an operation south west of Hoi An. Both Corpsman Twehous and PCF John Peel died from wounds received while rescuing another on that hot cloudless day.

Private First Class John Charles Peel
Let us not forget Private First Class John Charles Peel, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Peel served our country until September 17th, 1967 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. John died from small arms fire/grenade. His body was recovered. John was born on January 24th, 1946 in Bradford, Massachusetts.
PFC Peel is on panel 26E, line 085 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
John grew up in Bradford, MA. As a kid, he played bass guitar in a band with some of his friends. He was popular and well liked by everyone.
John was killed in Vietnam in the province of Quang Nam. He died in the arms of one of his fellow soldiers who, thankfully survived the war.
PFC John Charles Peel was added to the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Green Hill Park, Worcester (MA), dedicated on June 9, 2002. The Memorial honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War, as well as honoring the service of all those who answered their country's call during those difficult years.

John also has a life-long friend, Michael Carnevale, who is dedicated to keeping John's memory alive. This young Marine was obviously an amazing person. So many people still care for him.
