I have spent many years researching the Turnidges, as it is my maiden name. The following information is part of what I have found. Vincent and Amanda are my g-g-grandparents. I have only found one record that mentions Amanda's birth location (other than the state) and that is son David Allen's birth certificate, which says she was born near Kansas City, in Lawrence County, Missouri. This would make sense as that is where her parents were living in the 1850 through 1870 census. Some ancestry trees have a different birth location, but I have no idea what that source would be. I have looked at some of those trees, and could see no sources for that birth location, so I wonder where it originated? If someone puts something on their tree, others will copy it whether it is accurate or not, so I always strive for as much accuracy as possible.

Amanda was the fourth of eleven children for William C. and Synthia (Connell) Pennington. Her childhood was spent in Lawrence County, Missouri.

Amanda married Vincent Jasper Turnidge 6 Sep 1866 in Lawrence County, Missouri. They had 9 children: Mary Josephine; Martha Ann; John Calvin; William Ace; Cynthia R.; David Allen; Joseph Preston; Nancy Viola; Sirrilda.

They lived in Lawrence County, Missouri until Sep 1874 when they moved to Salem, Oregon. By 1880 they were living in Jackson, Oregon and by 1910 they were in Willamina, Oregon. Her husband was a Primitive Baptist Minister and he had also served in the Civil War, where he was wounded in the foot, forcing him to wear a peg leg.
