1962 in Company H 79 Illinois, Volunteer Infantry and was honorably discharged 12 June1865 and
died May 7, 1906. She was married under the name of Eliza J Fritry to Charles H. Cass on 30 May
1855 by Rev. Burtner at Vigo County, Indiana. W. R. Sanders and Clarence F. Cass were the
witnesses. (W. R. Sanders is the husband of Melissa Jane Cass, Clarence is her son.)
2. Claimant General Affidavit, 14 May 1906, number 775663. Eliza J. Cass 70 year old widow of Charles
H. Cass, Company H 79 Regiment, Illinois Infantry: stated that she was married to the soldier May 30,
1855 and that they lived together continuously as husband and wife until his death May 7, 1906. She
also stated that she is totally blind and has been for the last ten years, cannot earn a living and that
there is no person legally bound to support her.
3. General Affidavit, 12 May 1906. A sworn statement by two acquaintances, attesting to her claim.
4. 22 September 1916, Certificate number 614478. Eliza stated that she was 80 years old, pensioned
because of her husband's Civil War service and entitled to an increase of pension provided by an Act
of Congress.
