Silas was the first of 9 children born to Lafayette [Dink] Barnett and Virginia Ann Franklin. He also had 2 step-siblings from his father's first marriage to Eliza A Roper.
Silas first married Cora Abigail Roper in 1896, having 2 children together: Thomas Oliver b 1902 & Alma b 1904. After her death in 1907 he married a second time to Mattie Virginia Brown 2 Jan 1908 in Lincoln Co, TN. She brought to this marriage her son Clarence from her 1st marriage to a Mr Leslie.
Mattie & Silas had 3 more children: Oscar Raymond b 1909; Jesse B b 1911; Mabel A b 1917.
After Mattie's death in 1948 he married Mattie B McSherry 6 June 1949 in Athens, Limestone Co, AL. They soon divorced according to county records on 25 Feb 1950. However oral history says they did marry again to remain together until his death in 1957.
Silas lived most of his life in Lincoln Co, TN around Ardmore & Cash Point and later w/ 3rd wife in Limestone Co, AL near Athens where he died.
He did make at least one trip to Southern Calif to visit his son Jesse's family.
His headstone is shared by his first 2 wives, Cora and Mattie V.
