FIRST SOME HISTORY: Barbados is the Easternmost island nation in Lesser Antilles, East of the West Indies/ Caribbean Islands. The name Barbados is of Portuguese or Spanish origin.

Columbus, who in 1492 was the first European to reach the islands, called them the West Indies because he believed he had arrived near India by travelling westward from Spain to find Asia. 

A former British Colony, Barbados gained independence from UK in 1966. Queen Elizabeth II was Queen of Barbados until 2021. Saint George Parish, is one of two land-locked parishes and is adjacent to Saint Michael Parish where the capital and largest city Bridgetown is located.

The West Indies includes all the islands in the Antilles, plus the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Alleyne Fitzroy King is the son of William Joseph King a blacksmith and Alice Squires both born Barbados, BWI, who married Mar 26, 1853, Saint George Parish.

When Alleyne was born, they lived in Church Village and he was baptized Mar 29, 1875, Saint Philip's Parish Church. (image attached)

Grandparents are Thomas King and Rebecca Carter who married Aug 8, 1818.


Alleyne had nine known siblings. One, Oscar Gerald King born 1868 came to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1902 with wife Elizabeth and crossed border in 1927 to visit daughter Mrs. Ida Beryl Waite in Detroit Mich. She died in 1959 FL.


When he was 18, Alleyne, a merchant's clerk, married Rebecca Jane Duesbury/Danesbury Corbin, age 24, May 25, 1892, St. Ambrose Chapel, Parish of Saint Michael, Barbados. She was born 1868, Barbados, to Charles Joseph Corbin a policeman and Mary Elizabeth Seale who both died in Barbados.

Rebecca Jane King died Jan 27, 1949, Barbados.

Gwendoline Aurelia King was born Feb 22 1893, Bridgeton, Barbados, immigrated in 1922, married Hilton Eyre H. Dash in 1923, NY. He was also born Barbados and died Feb 15, 1963, NY. Gwendoline died Nov 24 1971, Polk. Florida.


Duncan Fitzroy King born July 11, 1899, Barbados, married Gladys Amy Springer in 1922, Montreal, Canada, and died 1959 Canada.


Thomas Joseph King born Oct 12, 1904, Barbados, married Stella Ada Greathead Yearwood in 1939, Queens, NY. He died May 7, 1987, Roselle, NJ.


Mary Nita Duesbury King born April 10, 1904, Barbados, married James Harold Proverbs in 1925, NJ. She died in Barbados 1993.


Alice Aileen King born born Sept 9, 1910, Barbados, married Jocelyn Karl O'Donald Massiah in 1936, Barbados. She died in 2005 Barbados and he died 1987 Toronto, Canada.
