Robert Lavern Schwallier, age 93, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015, at Fulton Manor after complications from a fall. Robert lived the past 10 years at Villa Maria. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Graves, his brother, George Schwallier and sister, Georgianna Thome and their spouses. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; children, Christine (Charles) Burg, Mary Schwallier, Lois (James) Jagers, Geri (Stephen) Dunn, Teresa (Richard) Evans, Robert (Christine) Schwallier, Barbara's husband, Douglas (Ellen) Graves, and Charles (Lisa) Schwallier. His pride and joy were his 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Robert is also survived by his brothers, Leonard (Dorothy) Schwallier and Fred (Donna) Schwallier and many nieces and nephews. He retired from the City of Grand Rapids after many years of service. Robert remained active and would often be seen walking the halls at Villa Maria prior to his fall. Visitation will take place on Friday at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Alt and Shawmut Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM with a rosary to be said at 8:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday at 10 AM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE, with a luncheon to follow. Donations in memory of Bob can be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church or Gilda's Club.
