BURLEY MELVIN THORN

Burley Melvin Thorn, son of Steven and Nettie Thorn, was born Aug. 22, 1886, at Liberty Center, IA, and died at his home in Milo, IA on August 19, 1962.

In early years, Burley was united in marriage to Ellen Hastings and to that union were born two daughters, Arlene and Geraldine. After Ellen preceded him in death, Burley was married to Clara Dye. She died about one year later.

Burley was united in marriage to Sadie Smith in Feb. 1922. To this union was born one daughter, Burline. Burley lived most of his life in Warren County with the exception of a short time spent in South Dakota. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; three daughters: Mrs. Arlene Alsup and Mrs. Burline Yates of Des Moines, and Mrs. Geraldine Burchett of New Virginia; two stepchildren: Mrs. Beulah Haworth of Indianola, and Carlton Smith of Viet Nam; two sisters: Mrs. Beulah Kerr and Mrs. Stella Childs of California; three brothers: Ila Thorn of Chicago, Oral Thorn of Lacona, and Harry Thorn of Milo; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one step-grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

SERVICES FOR BURLEY THORN

Services for Burley Thorn, 75, of Milo, prominent Warren county farmer who died Monday, were held Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mosher Funeral Home in Milo. Burial was in the Indian Valley Cemetery. Mr. Thorn had been ill for several weeks.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Arlene Alisup and Mrs. Berline Yates of Des Moines, and Mrs. Geraldine Burchett of New Virginia; one stepdaughter: Mrs. Beulah Haworth of Indianola; and a stepson: Carl Smith who is in Viet Nam. There are also four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
