Frances Janetta, oldest daughter of Tip and Rachael Lake, was born near Liberty Center, IA, Jan. 26, 1864, and passed away at her home in Milo, IA, March 5, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 9 days.

She was united in marriage to Stephen Thorn Oct. 28, 1883. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1923. To this union were born 8 children: Burley of Ackworth; Stella of San Diego, CA; Della who died in infancy; Harry and Ila of Milo; Oral of Lacona; Beulah of Carlisle; and Russell of Des Moines.

Nettie, as she was always known, was a loving wife and mother, always looking on the bright side of life. She used the Golden Rule as her chief guide in everyday living. Her home was always open especially to ministers and the unfortunates.

She was converted to the Christian faith early in childhood and she and her husband joined the Otter Creek Christian Church. She had lived for the past 40 years on a farm near Medora. After the death of her husband, she and her son, Ila, continued to keep the farm until about six months ago, when they came to Milo to make their home.

She had been confined to her bed for about six weeks. She suffered no pain. She was always cheerful and her only thought was of those caring for her.

She leaves to mourn her passing besides her children: one sister, Mrs. Ida Proctor of Indianola; 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held from the Medora Methodist Church Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 with the Rev. Reed Kessler of Earlham officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Sargent. Interment was in the Indian Valley cemetery near Medora.
