William Jefferson Scogin was the son of Allen Wright and Susan (Hawthorne) Scogin. He married Celia Grimes in March, 1848 in Monroe AL. He was the father of Susan Elizabeth, John Jefferson, James Harrington, Allen R., Mary C., and William Toliver. Celia died in 1860 and is buried in the Old North Church Cemetery in Nacogdoches, TX., next to their daughter Mary C. William married Mary Ann Richardson Self on Oct. 10, 1862. William and Mary had three children, Mary Ann, Robert Lee and Charley T. William and Mary separated on July 23, 1887. William served with the 4th Texas Cavalry during the Civil War.
