John J. Zabretsky Sr., 75, of Washington Avenue, Larksville, died Monday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born on May 30, 1930, in Exeter, son of the late Joseph and Anna Lorko Zabretsky He attended Plymouth High School and was a member of St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth. John enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City He was an avid reader, as well as an avid Eagles and Yankees fan.
He was an animal lover and had a special fondness for German shepherds. John retired from the military after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army Military Police. While he was in service, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was later employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot until 1984.
He was a member of the Plymouth American Legion Post 463 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary; sister, Marion Makos. The funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 from S.J.
Gront-kowski Funeral Home, 530 W Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth. Interment will be in the parish cemetery Plymouth Township. Friends may call Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Luzerne County SPCA..
