Walter Edward Best, 91, of Palm Bay, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023. He always lived life to the fullest. Born on Saturday, September 10, 1932, Walt grew up in the small town of New Milford, New Jersey riding horses, swimming in the Hackensack River, and enjoying his family.
He attended New Milford Jr. High School from kindergarten through 9th grade and then attended Hackensack High School where he graduated in 1950. Walter immediately joined the United States Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Salerno Bay during the Korean War.
After retiring from the Navy, he attended school and became an Electronic Engineer which became his lifelong career. In 1955, Walter volunteered for the New Milord Fire Department and spent 32 years in the department, becoming Chief of the Department in 1971. His proudest moments in life were serving his country and his community. He will be missed.
Walter will live in the hearts of his wife Carol; his children, Patti, Andrea, James and John; and his step-children Eric and John. Walt will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Jamie, Julianne, Olivia and Michael as well as his great-grandchildren: Lucas Joseph, Aria and Miya.
