CLYDE L. ‘JEFF' LANDRETH

The funeral for Clyde L. "Jeff" Landreth, 81, of Alva, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Alva First Baptist Church. Dr. Greg Hook will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Mar-shall Funeral Home, Alva.

He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Hollis to Jeffery Joseph and Viola Hughes Landreth and died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, in Enid.

He attended grade school and junior high in Hollis. He enlisted in the Navy in December 1943 during his junior year. He served two years on the USS Dade PA 99 as a gunner's mate third class during World War II. He returned to port in Oakland, Calif., until his discharge in May 1946. He returned to Hollis where he finished high school, graduating in 1947. He went on to graduate from Northwestern State College in Alva in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in education.

He married Donna Burns in July 1952. They moved to Attica, Kan., where they both taught classes and he began his coaching career. After several years in the educational field, they started a farming and ranching operation and moved to a farm southeast of Alva, where they lived for nine years. They moved to Alva, where they continued to farm and ranch until his death.

He was a member of Alva First Baptist Church and Blackwing Post 2487 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was inducted into Harmon County Athletic Hall of Fame on April 16, 2003.

Surviving are his wife, Donna, of Alva; two sons, David of Houston, Texas, and Kevin of Ponca City; one daughter, Kayla Haskins of Burleson, Texas; two brothers, W.F. Landreth of Bloomington, Minn., and Kenneth Landreth of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Patty Skeele of Olympia, Wash., and Sue Williams of Lubbock, Texas; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters.
