Ex-Recorder McCauley Is Dead at 70
Hugh Maxwell McCauley, a veteran in Democratic politics in this county, died yesterday afternoon at his home in Faucett. He was 70 years old.
Mr. McCauley served as recorder of deeds from 1923 to 1931, and was state representative of the third district from 1945 to 1949. He was a banker in Agency and Faucett before his election as recorder.
An affable fellow, Mr. McCauley made many friends during his banking and political career by his willingness to do favors. He was regarded as one of the top-notch vote getters of the county in his time and, as a legislator, was instrumental in securing the passage of the law providing for the primary for the selection of city office nominees.
He was born in Willow Brook and spent most of his life in this county. He was a member of the Sparta Methodist Church, the Mason Lodge, O.E.S., I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 432, and Rebekah Lodge No. 183.
