Crumley both from Afton.
Howard was the father of three sons;
Raymond, Bill and Doug Crumley
Howard was an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman
and a 32nd degree Mason, Badge #250. He
was stationed at Healdton, Carter Co.,
Oklahoma.
On an evening while on duty, Howard
had stopped a car for a routine traffic
violation, on the outskirts of Ardmore,
Carter Co.,Oklahoma.
He approached the car and the driver
wouldn't corporate with him. He asked
him to step out of the car, a shuffle
began to take place. During this time
the man was able to get Howard's gun
out of his holster and he shot Howard,
killing him instantly.
Little did Howard know at the time he
stopped the car, the men had all ready
committed murder in another Oklahoma
County. Howard had been transferred back
to the N.E. part of the state. The moving
truck was coming the next morning to move
his family, he was just finishing his parole
duty that evening of the tragic shooting.
Howard attending the Afton Schools, and
was one of my brother's, Bob Long's best
highschool friends. He had visited in our
home many times in Afton.
Howard was a good friend to many, a loving
family man,and certainly one of Oklahoma's
Finest Highway Patrolmans.
He will be remembered by all who knew &
loved him.
At the time of the trail, for Howard's
killer, I was on Jury Duty. It was held in
the Carter County Court House, Ardmore,
Oklahoma. They picked me for one of the
jurors for the killer's
trial and I declined, I told them that
Howard was a good family friend, I couldn't
serve.
