Thelma Juanita Whitten

April 29, 1940 - April 5, 2023


Thelma Juanita Whitten, 82 of Hinton, passed away Wednesday April 5, 2023 at her home following a sudden illness.


Born April 29, 1940 in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Thelma Grimmett McBride.


Juanita was a graduate of Hinton High School and had previously worked as a waitress for the Hinton Café. She loved taking drives, watching television and spending time with her beloved family. Juanita was also an avid Summers County Lady Bobcat fan. She attended Brooks Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lead Whitten; five brothers, Leslie, Roy, Ezra, Ernest and Rufus McBride; two sisters, Irene Adkins and Mary Meadows.


Survivors include a son, Lee Whitten of Hinton and a daughter, Vickie Whitten of Hinton; one brother, Eldridge McBride and wife Linda of Daniel Island, SC; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday April 11, 2023 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery at Brooks. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.


Pallbearers will be; Vincent and Wilford Adkins, Danny and Jay Meadows, Eric Adkins and Chris Arthur.
