Daughter of Albert L. & Susan M.(Elrick)Peck - Wife of Harry L. Bailey


Mae P. Bailey, 92, formerly of Oakville and more recently a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care and Rehabilitation at Mediapolis, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

The daughter of Albert L. and Susan M. Elrick Peck, she was born March 28, 1909, in Louisa County. She was married to Harry L. Bailey, who preceded her in death June 12, 1969.

She graduated from Oakville High School and attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls and Iowa Wesleyan College at Mount Pleasant. She taught at Louisa Center, Newport, Toolesboro, Prairie Point, Lone Star, and Oakville Consolidated schools.

She was active in the United Methodist Church at Oakville for more than 50 years, where she belonged to the W.S.C.S, played the organ and taught Sunday school.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Oakville. When she was younger, she enjoyed gardening and having fresh vegetables and flowers. She was also a very good cook and seamstress.

She loved her family and with beautiful handwriting, she faithfully wrote to them every week. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her son, Merlin and Dolly Peck of Bloomington; and a brother, Raymond Peck of Winter Haven, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Ralph, Lee and Dewey; and two sisters, Agnes Gast and Susan Peck.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with the Revs. Harlan W. Winter and Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery at Oakville. The pallbearers are Bob Brown, Marvin Beeding, Mark McCulley, Tom Thornberg, David Thompson and Roger Hecox.

The family will meet friends prior to the funeral from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church at Oakville.
