Obituary of John Coleman from Kickapoo Scout January 16, 1919

"John Coleman was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, March 27, 1844 and departed this life at the home of his son Thomas on Jan. 1, 1919 and as the old year passed out so did our dear father pass to his eternal home.
"He enlisted in the U.S. Service on the 14th day of August, 1862 in Co.D 31st Reg. Wis Vol and served to the close of the war when he received an honorable discharge.
"He was united in marriage on July 1, 1866 to Mary Crow, To this union were born eight children, the wife and two children preceded him to the great beyond. Two sons and four daughters and one sister are left to mourn their loss, Thomas of Haney and William of Scott, Mrs. M. A. Lowe of Haney ,Mrs. Eva Lee of Boaz, Richland County; Mrs. Leta Northrup of Bismark N.D.,and Mrs. Lela Stantorf of Minneapolis and a sister, Mrs. Ann Coleman of Bell Center, besides a host of relatives and friends. He made his home with his son Thomas and wife for the past fifteen years and for the past seven years he has been a patient sufferer from Bright's disease.

"He was a kind and affectionate father and was loved and esteemed by all who knew him. Uncle John as he was commonly called will be greatly missed in the community."

"The funeral service was held at the Bell Center Church on Friday morning Jan. 3 at 10 o'clock, Rev. Crowley of Mt. Zion officiating. "

"We hereby desire to express our heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved father; we also extend our thanks to the choir who so kindly assisted at the last sad rites.

He married Mary Crow, married 1-Jul-1866 in Scott Twp., Crawford, WI, (daughter of Rudolph Crow and Barbara Tillberry).
