Buford Offutt, 53 years old, was discovered dead in his room at 123 Melrose Avenue North at 8 o'clock this morning, Coroner John P. Brill Jr., reported.
Offutt was found hanging from a rope tied to a rafter. He was found by his brother-in-law, John Hannukainen of the same address. The victim last was seen alive when he retired to his room in the attic at 9 o'clock last night. Coroner's deputies said Offutt had been despondent because of ill health.
