Valley community were held Wednesday afternoon at the Buffalo Valley Church of Christ. Thomas Wagner of Lebanon officiated at the services. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Baxter.
Mr. Bates died of a heart attack Monday night at his home near Buffalo Valley. Son of Thomas and Amelia (Permelia) Bartlett Bates; he was a native of Putnam County and had lived all his life in the Buffalo Valley community where he was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maude Fitzpatrick Bates; a daughter, Mrs. L. C. Leftwich, Baxter, three brothers, Virgil and Bethel Bates of Mount Juliet, TN and John Bates of Ash Flatt, AR; three grandsons and eight great grandchildren.
