"Ohio, County Marriage Records, 1774-1993" state:

"Eva G. Gregg, age 17, married Claude Payton, age 22, on July 19, 1892 in Hamilton county Ohio".

Eva died just 13 days before their 7th wedding anniversary.

*Her July 7, 1899 obituary states: "she died at her home on Church Street (in Americus GA)"

and "she leaves a husband and two small children (in Americus GA)".

Their 1st son, Herbert William Payton Sr, was born on June 23, 1894, in Indiana.

Their 2nd son, Carl Richard Payton, was born on November 20, 1898,

in Americus, Sumter county, Georgia.

*Unfortunately, Eva (Gregg) Payton died just 5 years and 2 weeks after Herbert's 5th birthday,

and only 7 months and 2 weeks after Carl's birth, in Americus, GA.

*The Sylvester, Worth county, GA Census, dated June 4, 1900, for Herbert W and Carl R Payton,

lines 46 and 47, states: their "Mother's Birthplace as Ohio".

*The December 17, 1928 Death Certificate for Herbert W Payton Sr states:

his "Mother's maiden name as: Elinor Gregg, her Birthplace: Ohio".

**Many, many thanks to Alan Anderson, who was an historian for the Sumter county GA library,

(and also the help of 2 others), for finding and posting online the death and burial information for

so many people who are buried in Americus, Sumter county GA cemeteries.

In Mr. Anderson's list of burials for cemeteries in Americus, GA was the name of :

"Mrs. Claude Payton -- her Death was: July 6, 1899 in Americus, GA,

her Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, with an obituary in the

"Americus Weekly Times Recorder" Newspaper, dated: July 7, 1899".

Without this information, Eva (Gregg) Payton might not have been found.
