Obituary
Charles Christian Wiff

Charles Christian Wiff was born March 6, 1866, in a log house located a few rods north of the present Wiff residence. Charles' parents, John C. and Anna came directly from Bergen, Norway, in 1865, and purchased the Wiff farm from Reverend Nelson Hovde, a Methodist minister who was a brother of Mrs. John Wiff. This farm has been the home of Mr. Wiff for 93 1/2 years, and five generations have been born on this homestead.

His community interests were the Methodist Church, which he joined in 1893, and served on the official board. He was clerk of the school boards for many years; president of the Baldwin Telephone Company for 43 years and instrumental in getting the first farm telephone lines into the community.

He was married to Margaret E. Guiser, on December 25, 1895. To this union two sons were born, Guy and Carl, and one daughter Helen. He had one brother Nelson A., and one sister Anna, neither of whom survived him. There are eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory. He was laid to rest in the Martell Methodist Cemetery beside his wife and brother.

Funeral services were held July 29 at the New Centerville Church with Rev. Dale Shotts officiating. Caskets bearers were Guy Spencer, Earl Spencer, David Wiff, Charles Wiff, John Wiff and Thomas Wiff.
