John J. Matey, 75, of Center Street, Hanover Section of Nanticoke, died Thursday at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke.
Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Durkay Matey. He attended Nanticoke schools and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke.
Before retiring nine years ago, he was employed as a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution, Dallas, for 28 years, and previously by the Duplan Mill, Nanticoke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Buczkowski, in 1993; brothers, Andrew, on Feb. 11; and Michael.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia Matey, Laflin; Alice Matey, at home; a sister, Ann Golemb, Nanticoke; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke. American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke, will hold military services Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Hanover Township.
