John Ervin Dekle, Jr. passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in LaBelle after an extended illness. He was born in Raiford, FL, on April 21, 1929, to John and Allie Dekle and raised in Lake Butler. The Dekles came by ship to Savannah, GA in the early 1700s and moved on to settle the Thomasville, GA area, then into North Florida in the early 1800s.

John received his electrical training in Gainesville, then moved to Fort Myers with his parents and family in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Belvore, VA where he met his wife, Alma. He helped with the construction of Florida Power & Light facility on S.R. 80, then for many yeas was an electrical contractor in Fort Myers. He moved back to North Florida in 1980. He was an avid hunter, horseman, outdoorsman and a fine shot. He has resided in LaBelle, near his family, since November 2001.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and older brother, Donald James. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Dekle Davis, former son-in-law Boe Davis, granddaughter Savannah Davis; son, John (Jake) Dekle (Glynis), former daughter-in-law Carol Dekle, granddaughter Jessie Dekle, former wife and good friend, Alma Dekle; sisters: Ann Yarbrough of Fort Myers, Jane Smith of Lake City and Frances Hanlon of Orange Park; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be at Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6-8 p.m. Services are to be Friday, Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church in LaBelle at noon, followed by interment at Fort Denaud Cemetery.
