James Walter was the son of John W. Herridge and Louise Theresa Schmidt Herridge born August 4, 1889 in Lacon, Illinois.

In 1903, he moved from Illinois with his family to near Wakita, Oklahoma.

James Walter had fifteen siblings.

As a young man he moved to the Bluff City area where he farmed most all his life.

He married Eva Huston on April 23, 1913. They were blessed with eight children, six daughters and two sons ~ Jennie Herridge (Jennie never married, devoted her life to helping her daddy take care of her sibling's). Bessie Evalene (Wilmarth), Ruth Helen (Snyder), Dorothy Edith (died when she was only 2 1/2 years old), Maurice James, Jaunita Clara (Hudson) and Almeta May (Huntley Fortmeyer). Eva passed away February 22, 1932 giving birth to her stillborn son Cecil.

To his children and grandchildren, he was a loving and kind father and granddad.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church and Oddfellows Lodge. He served on the school board of Bluff City for 18 years.

James passed away December 27, 1981 at Eastview Nursing Home, Belle Plaine, Kansas, he was 92 years, 4 months and 23 days.
