Avery A Perry age 29 [sic: he was 31, lied on his enlistment papers] of Davenport, Iowa Enlisted in Company D, Iowa 20th Infantry Regiment on 25 Aug 1862. Mustered out on 11 Apr 1864 at New Orleans, Lousiana. Born abt 1833. Sources: Roster & Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion.

Pension application filed on March 15, 1880 - interment records at Chico Cemetery indicate burial took place on Sep 24, 1914, and widow's benefits to Josephine Perry granted by application dated Oct 6, 1914.

A.A. Perry, aged 74, born New York, occupation "nothing", joined the Major General Henry W. Halleck Post No. 19, GAR, of Chico in 1905. He died on September 23, 1914. Chico Record, Wednesday Morning, September 23, 1914, pg 5 col 4: Well Known G.A.R. Veteran Is Dead. A.A. Perry died at his home, 832 Walnut street, from paralysis yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was eighty-five years old and had lived in Chico fourteen years.

Deceased had ben an invalid for several years. His friends in Chico were many and he was held in high esteem.

He was born in Saratoga, N.Y., and came west several years ago to make his home. He was a member of Halleck Post, G.A.R.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home.

Deceased is survived by the following children: R.A. Perry, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. F.F. Tallman, Reno, Nev., Frank Perry, Oroville, E.S. Perry, Chico, and W.S. Perry, Stirling City.
