Thomas P. Gerdes, 46, of Springfield died Saturday, May 10, 2008.
He was born September 19, 1961 in Gilman, the son of LeRoy and Mary Fruin Gerdes. He married Deborah Barry on November 4, 1989.
Tom graduated from Gilman High School and Eastern Illinois University. He began his career in the banking industry with Illinois National Bank in 1987 and was most recently employed as Vice President of Commercial Lending at Bank of Springfield.
He was a member of the American Business Club, Blue Ridge Club, Sertoma Club, Panther Creek Country Club and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and attending and coaching his childrens' sporting events. He loved sports and his favorite teams were the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and the Illini.
He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; two sons, Cameron and Jacob; one daughter, Katlyn; mother, Mary Gerdes of Gilman; one brother, Richard (wife, Susan) Gerdes of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; three sisters, Barbara (husband, Dennis) Monk of Gilman, Cathy Strough of Watseka and Pat (husband, Jay) Horvitz of Peoria; nine nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and a great-nephew.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Springfield with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
