Herbert Olson passed away unexpectedly at Thief River Falls, MN on Tuesday evening, October 19, 1982 at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

Herbert Sigurd Olson, the son of the Albin and Sigrid Olson was born June 4, 1895 near Lake Bronson, MN. He attended school and grew to manhood in the Lake Bronson community and on April 21, 1918 was united in marriage to Ida Hanson at Kennedy. He served in the 357th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Infantry Division and was wounded in action at St Mihiel, France. Following his discharge in February of 1920, he returned to Lake Bronson. He operated a small cafe business and a general store there for several years, and later moved to a farm in Jupiter Township near Lake Bronson, where the couple resided for many years. He was a member of the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post #315, the Thief River Falls VFW Post and the Kittson County 40 et 8. He is survived by his wife Ida; four sons, Ivan (Bernice) and Harvey (Arlet) of Lake Bronson; Luverne (Ineta) of Halma; and Lloyd (Julianne) of Elko, Nevada; one daughter Geraldine (Dennis) Erickson of Thief River Falls; 28 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Olson of Minneapolis and Raymond of Crookston; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Agda Nordling; a brother Hjalmer "Chap" Olson; a grand-daughter Lynn Keenan and a grandson Wade Foster.

Funeral services were held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 23, 1982 at the Community Covenant Church in Lake Bronson with Pastor Keith Carlson and his grandson, Pastor Paul Olson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery at lake Bronson with military honors accorded by the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post #315. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers were grandsons: Curtis Olson, Billy Olson, Bobby Olson, Barry Olson, Tommy Olson and Ricky Olson.

Shannon Hilde served as organist and Mrs Roger Westerberg sang "Beyond The Sunset" and with Pastor Olson singing a personal family favorite.
