Vernon J. Sjpevack, 70 of the 2300 block of east 39th Court died of cancer Thursday at Mercy medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamilton's Near Highland memory Gardens Funeral Home with burial at Highland Memory gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Spevack was born at Ford, near Runnels, and had lived in des Moines most of his life. He had worked as a maintenance supervisor at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Co., before retiring. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Open Bible Church, King David Masonic Lodge and Mercy Cancer Support Group.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Lloyd of LaPorte, Texas, and Vernon of Des Moines; two daughters, Dee Spray of Des Moines and Barbara McDuff of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mary Jose of Friendswood, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great -grandchildren.
The family will receive friends fro 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
