Jean Baptiste married Nancy Sutton Choisser in Kaskaskia, Randolph County, Illinois, on January 5, 1811. He and his wife had twelve sons and a daughter. The couple was living in Saline County, Illinois in 1850. The name John is used on his gravestone as an Americanized version of his French birthname Jean.
