EDWARD A. FREEMAN OF NEWTON DIES SUDDENLY

NEWTON, Dec 13 - Edward Alden Freeman of 541 War st, Newton Center, died suddenly today at the Newton Hospital, following an operation performed last night. He was a graduate of Harvard College, class of 1918, and had a degree from Tech.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Leverett N. Freeman of Newton Center, he was born in Concord, N. H., August 10, 1896. He entered Harvard with the class of 1918 and subsequentlyu went to Tech, where he became an instructor under Prof Spofford after finishing his course there.

Defective eyesight prevented him from going to the Plattsburg Officers' Training Camp when he completed his work with the Harvard Regiment, but he entered active war service with the War Department in South Boston. Returning to Tech after the war, he later entered the emply of Fay, Spofford & Thorndike, consulting engineers at 15 Beacon st, Boston.

He was in Springfield for the past few weeks working with the firm's engineers on the Springfield bridge. Mr. Freeman became ill a few days ago and his fathe went to Springfield yesterday, returning last night withe the young man. A consultation of surgeons and plysicians was followed by an operation.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 10:15 Wednesday morning. Burial will be in Concord, N. H., Rev. Ashley Day Leavitt of the Harvard Church, Brookline, and Rev. Edward McArthur Noyes of the First Church of Newton Center will officiate.

Besides his parents Mr. Freeman is survived by two brothers, Richard W. Freeman of Worcester and Sibley A. Freeman, a freshman at Harvard. He was a member of the Harvard Club, the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and the Boston Society of Civil Engineers.
