Mary Lindsay "Minnie" Morehead was a daughter of Colonel John Henry Morehead (1833-1863) and his wife Susan L. Lindsay (1833-1872). Her paternal grandparents were James Turner Morehead (1799-1875) and his wife Mary Teas Lindsay (1813-1847); and, her maternal grandparents were Dr. Isaac James Madison Lindsay (1804-1854) and his wife Jane Erwin Dick (1810-1848). She was probably named for her paternal grandmother. Her father died in the War, and her mother soon after. She never married and spent her later years at the home of her uncle, James Turner Morehead (1838-1919), a lawyer in Greensboro. She is buried near her parents.
