Milton Eugene, son of Edward A. and Mertie Stahlhut Meyer, was born November 17, 1927, near Sumner in rural Bremer County, Iowa. He was baptized January 29, 1928 by Rev. Theodore Klatt and confirmed March 29, 1942 by Rev, William Nagler at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sumner. He received his education in the rural schools near Sumner. From 1952 to 1954, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea.

On October 20, 1954, he was united in marriage with Corrinne Rader at Immaculate conception Catholic Church in Sumner. He and his have farmed since that time southwest of Sumner.

Shorty's death occurred Sunday morning, August 4,1996, following a sudden heart attack. He was 68 years old, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sumner, where he served in various church offices. He was a member of Thomas E Woods post #223, American Legion of Sumner and the Bremer County Farm Bureau. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Bremer County Pork Producers, C and H Farm Service, and was president of the Bremer Co-op creamery Board.

In addition to his wife, Corrinne of Sumner, he is survived by three sons, John and his wife Marla of Gregory, South Dakota, and Kevin and Alan, both of Sumner; six grandchildren; two brothers, Elroy of Waterloo and Virgil and his wife Norma of Sumner; and four sisters, Lois, Mrs. Alfred Specht of Tripoli, Marlys, Mrs. Robert Figanbaum, also of Tripoli, Geraldine, Mrs. Donald Wilharm of Oelwein, and Mary, Mrs. George Wilkins of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven and his parents.
