A Memorial Requiem Mass for Tommye Eloise Watson Mayer, 77, will be held Tuesday, 1 March 2005 at 2:00pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 1959 Airline Dr., Bossier City. Officiating will be The Rev. Sue Bell. Death occurred peacefully at her home in Bossier City, LA on Friday, 25 February 2005 with a number of family members present. Cremation was provided by Boone Funeral Home.

Tommye was born in Leesville, LA on 10 December 1927. The daughter of the late James Richard and Lillie Lucretia Cain Watson, Tommye grew up in Leesville, LA. She is descended from the late William “Billy” and Caladonia “Callie” Holton Cain and the late Thomas William and Frances Emiline Jones Watson.

Tommye, a graduate of Leesville High School, attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston, LA. She married William Gauss Mayer 2 November 1946 in Leesville; they first lived in Ruston and then moved to Plain Dealing before settling in Bossier City in 1951. She was a charter member of St. George’s Episcopal Church serving on the Altar Guild and Women’s Auxiliary and more recently as a member of the vestry. She held membership in the Louisiana Engineering Society Lady’s Auxiliary and the Women’s Study Club serving a term as president. An avid genealogist, Tommye also held membership in the Friends of Genealogy club.

Much loved as a caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Bill, as he was known, and her parents James Richard and Lillie Lucretia Cain Watson. She is survived by daughters, Carolyn Mayer Hunter, and husband Benjamin of Pearland, TX, Jeanne Mayer Jerding, and husband Bernard of Casper, WY; sons, William Gauss Mayer, Jr. of Bossier City and Carl Guion Mayer, and wife Rebecca of Haughton, LA; grandchildren Jeffrey C. Hunter of Houston, TX, William Scott Hunter of Los Angeles, CA, Cassidy, Shannan, Siobhan and Caitlin Jerding of Casper, WY, Angie Mayer Dredge and husband Harlan of Honolulu, HI, Margaret Mayer Digilormo and husband Brandon of Haughton, LA; great granddaughter, Yasmine Vega-Jerding, of Casper, WY; brother, James Richard Watson, Jr. and wife, Audrey of Littleton, CO; sisters, Marion Hendricks, and husband O.E. “Pete” of New Braunfels, TX, Marie Hyde of Bryan, TX, Doris Krupsky of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Imelda Watson of Leesville, LA; brothers-in-law, Paul Robards Mayer, Sr., and wife Mary Virginia of Shreveport, LA, James Reade Mayer, Sr., and wife Maxine of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Isabel Mayer of Houston, TX, and Aino Mayer of Scottsdale, AZ.
