Obituary - DeERNEST M. RHOADES
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery for Ernest Melvin "Dusty" Rhoades, 63, of 2114 E. 23rd St., who died of cancer Saturday at Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Mr.Rhoades was born in Cincinnati, Ia., and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He retired in 1986 and following retirement was a truck driver for Kelly Cortum Trucking. He was an honorary member of Retired Teamsters Local 90, a life member of Disabled American Veterans, a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Baldwin-Patterson Post 274 and AmVets Post 2.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Geraldine; two sons, Ernest Jr. and Thomas, two daughters, Pamela McCoy and Lorrie Leege, all of Des Moines; five stepsons, Joseph Lizotte of Houston, Texas and Paul Lizotte, Larry Blacksmith, Daniel Blacksmith and David Blacksmith, all of Des Moines; two stepdaughters, Martha Woolsey and Marsha White, both of Des Moines; five brothers,James of Davenport, Daniel of Clio, Archie "Pete" of Liberty Center,and Sherman and Robert, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Cleda Johnston of Des Moines and Dorothy Philby of Denver, Colo; and 18 grandchildren.
Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
