AGED WOMAN SUMMONED
Mrs. Eva Rice. aged 83 years, one of Washington county's older residents, died at 9:20 o'clock Sunday evening at the home of her daughter. Mrs. George Bernhardt, at No. 605 Washington street. Mrs. Rice had been in poor health for some time, due to her advanced age and on Saturday morning suffered a stroke of paralysis which resulted in her death at the time mentioned.
Eva Roush Rice was born in Germany on December 20, 1834. At the age of 13 years she came to this country with her parents. Soon after arriving on these shores the family moved to Lowell where Mrs. Rice made her home the greater part of her life. For a number of years she lived with her husband, the late Henry Rice, who preceded her to the grave about 15 years ago, on a farm at Little Hocking. For the past year she had made her home with her children in Marietta.She was a member of the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran church of Lowell and also of the Frauenverein of that church.
The deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. George Bernhardt, Mrs. Henry Meister, Frank Rice and Daniel Rice, all of Marietta; J. L. Rice, of Denver, Col.; C. W. Rice, of Kansas City, Kan.; George Rice, of Yakima, Wash.; Peter Rice, of Little Hocking; Mrs. Edward Rechsteiner, of Lowell; and Mrs. Charles Moser, of Columbus. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Kate Seevers, of Dayton, and one brother, Christopher Roush, of Lowell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:15 o'clock Wednesday morning at the residence of George Bernhardt on Washington street. Following the services the body will be taken to Lowell where burial will be made.
