Mr. Sechler had been taken to Sacred Heart hospital at Eau Claire on the previous Tuesday. He had been ill of appendicitis since the Wednesday night before, but he had made good progress until that day, when the formation of an abscess was noticeable. Waiting for a more favorable condition, the surgeons delayed a couple of days before operating. Peritonitis soon developed, however, and all further efforts were in vain, though a further operation was performed on Friday. He passed away about seven o'clock that evening. The remains were taken to Sechlerville, where the funeral services were held, yesterday, Rev. J. H. Blackheld officiating, assisted by Rev. M. Merrill. There was a very large concourse of sympathizing friends and many beautiful floral tributes. The funeral was partially under the auspices of the Black River Masonic Lodge.
Harold Sechler was born at the village of Sechlerville on November 29th, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord R. Sechler. He was reared to manhood there, graduating from the Hixton high school. He completed his education at Carroll and Beloit colleges. In April 1915 he became associated with his father in business in this city, when they purchased the A. P. Jones grocery, the firm name being the G. R. Sechler Company. Harold was placed in charge as manager. The store is one of the best in the city and had a large trade. He entered vigorously into his business career, and he made good. He worked industriously and with close application, maintaining his stock at the same high standard, treating his customers with courtesy and increasing the volume of his trade from time to time. The responsibilities of business were pleasurable to him and he assumed them with abundant energy and ability. He easily gained confidence and rank in our local business world.
On November 25, 1915, he was married to Miss Mildred Rainey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Rainey, and they made their home in the beautiful residence built by W. R. O'Hearn.
He is survived by his parents, his wife and an infant son, Robert Gaylord. (Jackson County Journal, Black River Falls, WI, 3 Jan, 1917, p 1)
